Diraq Founder and CEO, Professor Andrew Dzurak, has been elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, one of Australia’s most prestigious scientific honours.
Professor Dzurak is recognised internationally for his pioneering contributions to silicon-based quantum computing and the architecture of spin qubit technologies. Over more than two decades, his breakthrough research has fundamentally shaped the global understanding of semiconductor quantum devices, establishing silicon as the leading pathway to utility-scale quantum computing.
This prestigious appointment reflects his global impact on quantum physics, nanotechnology, and advanced device engineering, cementing Australia’s position at the forefront of the global quantum landscape.
Reflecting on the honour, Professor Dzurak said:
“I’m deeply honoured and proud to be elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science.
“The first part of my career has been about demonstrating breakthrough science and pushing the frontiers of what’s possible in quantum computing, particularly in silicon. This Fellowship speaks to that work and the many colleagues, collaborators and students who have contributed to it over the years.
“The second stage is about translating that science into practical benefits for humanity. Building quantum technologies that are not only powerful, but scalable, manufacturable, and ultimately useful in the real world.
“That mission is now my focus at Diraq, where we’re using decades of research and turning it into economical and scalable quantum computing systems.
“I’m proud to be part of Australia’s quantum community, and grateful to the Academy for this recognition.”
Since transitioning his foundational research four years ago to establish Diraq, Professor Dzurak has grown the company into a commercial leader in the quantum sector, utilizing standard silicon fabrication to move the technology out of laboratory settings and into real-world, commercial operations.
